Class 20 Locomotive Society Fleet

The society owns three TOPS Class 20 English Electric type 1 diesel electric locomotives, 20 001 (D8001), 20 205 and 20 227.

20 227 at Watford on a Steam on the Met train   20 227 was the first locomotive the society bought. It is a significant locomotive as it was the last Class 20 built. Since entering preservation, it has become the most well known Class 20 having visited various railways and seeing extensive use on London Underground, most famously as part of the Steam on the Met events of recent years. It was the first privately owned diesel locomotive to operate a passenger service on a mainline railway, and hauled a CTLS railtour on London Underground's Metropolitan Line.
20 001 (D8001) was the society's second locomotive. This is also a significant locomotive as it is one of the batch of 20 prototypes built before the class went into production. It was the second prototype built, and until D8000 in the National Railway Museum was made operational, it was the oldest operational, ex-BR mainline diesel locomotive. Whilst in the society's ownership, this locomotive was used in the building of the Channel Tunnel.  20 001 fresh from a repaint
